There are two restaurants, including the Belsfield Restaurant — which has views of Lake Windermere — and the Brasserie, both serve traditional British dishes. There’s also an extensive wine list with wines hand-picked by the hotel’s buying experts. Guests can have drinks in the Lounge Bar and Drawing Room.

The hotel has 62 bedrooms, each with underfloor heating in the bathrooms, luxury pillows, Egyptian cotton linens and a jar of local sweets. Wi-Fi is free in all rooms, and most have views of Lake Windermere.

There’s plenty to do in Bowness-on-Windermere, such as The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, which is a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and there are numerous shops in the town centre. The Lakeland Motor Museum is eight miles away.

Alternatively, get a boat from Bowness Pier, opposite the hotel, to Lakeside or Ambleside, or drive to other Lakeland towns like Hawkshead and Grasmere. Hawkshead is particularly special as it’s a car-free zone. It’s described by Lonely Planet as “a jumble of whitewashed cottages, cobbled lanes and old pubs” and was where poet William Wordsworth went to school.
